Klarna Apple storefront... is it legit?

Hi! Has anyone ordered from the Klarna Apple Store front . I am nervous to do it, but in desperate need of a new phone. I am only wanting to do the buy now pay later option so I can still have somewhat of a cushion to fall back on.

thanks!

Klarna is a fintech and bank. They are HQ’d in UK and a large credit card and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) player. Not sure if OP has a credit card or wants to do BNPL, but they are a major player. There’s nothing wrong with purchasing from Klarna. They’ve been in the US for over a decade.

Apple has many retail channels, not just Apple Retail Stores. Generally, these stores sell at full retail and do not discount. The enticement is using rewards points and/or BNPL.

Hmm, a page from 2024, and Apple's own list of stores doesn't mention it.

Edit: You added your second comment after my response. Yes, they wouldn't be my first choice, last, or anything in between.

Hello~ Yep… it seems you must also make these purchases “in app.” I myself would not use Klarna nor their app. Color me skeptical…

Kurt, the list you link to are actual corporate Apple Retail Stores. The Klarna Storefront is a virtual store that you link to through the Klarna website. Many corporations have online stores for employees or in the case of banks for their cardholders to access and redeem points etc. For example Chase Bank has one for their cardholders to redeem points.

The Klarna card is added to Apple Wallet and used at checkout by selecting Apple Pay. At an Apple Retail Store the customer uses Apple Pay and pays with Klarna card presented in Apple Wallet. Customer then chooses a payment plan and Klarna approves or declines the transaction, like any other Apple Pay transaction.

Only if the purchaser decides the extended payment plans best fits their budget. They have interest free payment plans as well (shorter term, usually 1 to 2 months). The other thing to note is many bank credit cards charge near that as well. Apple Card for instance is 28% currently, down from about 30%. However, not everyone qualifies. A typical subprime credit card charges around 35%. Apple is still involved in BNPL through Affirm and Klarna and is an option when checking out via Apple Pay.

Gotcha. Just like Best Buy isn't listed, but they're still an authorized reseller.

Your knowledge of them seems pretty substantial. In which case, I would trust them. That, and the prices aren't your usual "too good to believe". They're the same as anywhere else, just with the option to make quarterly payments.

Userey is still a crime under federal and state law in US. The exact rate varies by state. In Florida the rate is about 25% a week or higher. Generally the state permitted maximum is charged at check cashing businesses and payday loan businesses.

The BNPL is not necessarily a bad choice, because it can avoid the credit card interest rate by allowing a longer period before interest is charged. It does open the door to getting oneself into a debt crisis though.
