iPhone 17 Pro: Wired CarPlay fails, other iPhones work

apple car play stopped working randomly. It’s a wired connection. Thought it was the wire so bought a new Apple one. It works on everyone else’s phone but mine. Tried to reset my phones settings didn’t work. It doesn’t even recognise my phone or pop up with “device connecting” when I plug it in. It doesn’t even recognise charge but that’s it. My husband and daughter’s phones both work no problems. (They have 16 and 16 plus and I have a 17 pro)

like I said it was working fine then all of a sudden during a drive it just disconnected and hasn’t worked since.

Since wired CarPlay works with other iPhones in the same vehicle and cable, this strongly points to an issue isolated to your iPhone rather than the car or wiring. Common causes include debris or oxidation in the Lightning/USB-C port, a stalled CarPlay or USB accessory service in iOS, or a software-level failure that occurred when it disconnected mid-drive. The fact that it no longer negotiates data (and only charges) is an important clue.

Here are a few focused troubleshooting steps to try, in order.

  • First, carefully inspect and clean the phone’s charging port using a flashlight and a wooden toothpick or anti-static tool; lint can prevent data pins from making contact while still allowing charging.
  • Next, on your phone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, delete the vehicle, then reboot the phone and reconnect.
  • Also confirm Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps & Features has CarPlay enabled.
  • Finally, check for an iOS update and install it if available.

If none of this resolves it, the most likely causes are a corrupted USB controller profile or a failing port, in which case Apple Support diagnostics would be your next step.
