Stop persistent Apple Pay setup prompts in iOS 26 settings

I upgraded to iOS 26. I keep getting prompted to set up apple pay in the settings app. I don't want Apple Pay and would like the prompt to go away! I have tried to go to my wallet, but can't seem to find anywhere to press STOP.

Please help. (one of the reasons I didn't want to upgrade to iOS 26!

Tap the prompt in Settings and choose the "Set Up Apple Pay", then you should see the option to "Set up Later in Wallet", where you will not be prompted again to set up Apple Pay. This happens when you Skip a step during setup after the update and you would see the same thing if you chose to skip the Siri setup or Face ID. The same thing happened to me after the iOS 18 update too, so I don't think it was a change in iOS 26.

No I haven’t started setting it up on my iPad. But I do have Apple Pay setup on my phone. And have for years. But for some reason Apple now seems to assume I also want it on my iPad. And keeps notifying me to set it up. I have not started to set it up on my iPad. But since the last IOS update it just assumes I want it there as well and keeps prompting me to set it up.

You have to click the Set Up option seen in your Settings first, then use the option on the screen that follows to Set Up Later. For me that removes the reminder as I had chosen to skip it when installing the update and the reminder does not come back. From that point on if I wanted to set up Apple Pay, I would have to go to the Wallet and add the cards.
