"Allow CarPlay While Locked" feature not always working

On iOS26, I do Settings>General>CarPlay>my car> and turn On "Allow CarPlay While Locked". That works about half the time. Half the time I have to manually unlock my phone to get CarPlay activated on my car. What's going on?

The difference is its age and, by extension, the health of its possibly >5 year old battery – which, if poor, can result in unexpected behavior. So...


Does your iPhone SE 2nd generation still have its original battery?


And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...


Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging

That CarPlay feature may not be more sensitive and that 80% max capacity may not be the cause of that unexpected behavior. Only an Apple engineer may be able to determine whether that weak battery is or isn't the cause.


However, Apple suggests having the battery replaced at around 80% – so consider having that weak, aging battery replaced to avoid possible future battery-caused issues occurring at an inopportune time:
