Please verify that your Sony TV system software is up-to-date.
Please verify that your version of the Apple TV app is up-to-date. The TV system software may have options to do so automatically.
Else try deleting and reinstalling the Apple TV app, as a way to start over with a clean slate.
If the issue persists after that, then please contact the Apple Support staff for suggestions. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/email/callback).

On what device/model is the Apple TV app installed when this happens?
Sony smart tv where I’ve logged in to the app through it. Not had any issues with sound apart from the last few weeks - one of which there was issue but thought that was resolved.
No sound on the Apple app
