Install clean app from App Store on iPhone 17 Pro?

Hi,

I have IOS 26.2 running on an Iphone 17Pro.

Have an app (ba.com) that has a bug and will not let me log in. The App and my credentials work on my wife's Iphone 17Pro (ISO 26.2). Her credentials for the app work on her Iphone as well but not mine.

Only thing I can deduct is that my copy of the app has a problem.

Tried to delete and re-install the app a few times but the Iphone insists on downloading the app from the cloud. I suspect the bug (whatever it is) is in that copy of the app. I want to install a clean copy of the App from the App Store.

I cannot figure out how to do this. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unbelievable, had NordVpn installed, not logged in. Deleted it an now it works. Thanks guy. Really appreciate the response and knowledge.
Btw BA is British Airways. I would have thought if any app needed to work with a VPN it would be them. Thanks again.

Good job and thanks for the update! Yes VPN's are problematic and easily detected by companies to prevent fraudulent activity on your account. As you found, just turning them off does not always work and why I recommended to remove any installed VPN's.

The last app delete process prompted me that the app data would be deleted.

While not related to your current issue, just for your information the message you saw was only referring to data stored on your device. When an app is allowed to store data in iCloud it will remain in case you have another device that is signed into the same account where that data is still used. Games commonly store data in iCloud so you can continue a saved game progress on a different device and deleting the game on one device will not lose your progress when needed on any other device or if you redownloaded the game.

You did download a fresh copy from the App Store and it would have been the latest version if you previously had an older one. As stated by lobsterghost1 apps are not stored in iCloud and the symbol just means you had downloaded it before.

  • If you have a VPN on your iPhone try removing it as some company servers will not offer authentication through a VPN.
  • It is not clear if you manually entered your Password or if it was autofilled from the Passwords app where it may have a different password used for your account.
  • If the app was allowed to store data in iCloud, it can be cleared by going to Settings > [name on top] > iCloud, and choose the name of the App if it is listed there. Data for an app can be stored in iCloud, just not the app itself.
  • Other than that it will need to be resolved by the app developer.

I'm glad we were able to help you. The reality is VPNs don't provide the security you think they do. In fact, just the opposite, but people have been led to believe they make your online life more secure. Most VPNs actually sell your search history, especially if an app is free. iPhone is the most secure platform you can use, and there is no need to have a VPN installed on it.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have nothing to go on but my vague understanding of how Apple does things. To me, the OS showing the user a cloud symbol which really means something else (it's not on the cloud) doesn't seem like something they'd do.

BA said to wait 24 hours for the bug to fix itself but I'm pretty sceptical of that. I will grill them hard tomorrow if some magical doesn't happen overnight.

Again, thanks for the quick post.

You're welcome. Both Mac Jim ID and I have confirmed that the cloud symbol only means the app is an App you've previously downloaded. I should have asked if you had a VPN installed on your phone. Even it it's not turned on, it can cause issues with apps, especially banking apps. I don't know what ba.com is though.
