How Do I Resize (change dimensions) in the Photos app?

How can I resize (change dimensions) of photos within the Photos app? I am talking about entering exact dimensions, not fiddling with a border around the photo. I can't believe this simple feature doesn't exist.

iPad, iPadOS 26

You can use the Preview app on an iPad as mentioned by Brian to change the dimensions. That is the easiest way to do it.

In the Photos app, tap on a photo to open it, then tap on the share icon at the top. From the top row of apps select Preview, if it's not there, swipe to the end and tap on More... and then look for Preview there.

Tap on it, and it should open the photo in the Preview app, once it's opened, you can tap on the ... icon and then on Adjust Size.

It's not there because you don't change dimensions in Photos app, you do it when you export from Photos, or do it in whatever app you choose to send the image too.

So, you can choose your dimensions in the Export dialogue, or in the Print dialogue. If you explain what you're trying to achieve perhaps I can guide you in more detail.

Not on an iPad-- in Mac Photos.

For an iPad you can "Save to Files" and use "Adjust Size" in Files:

This changes the number of pixels in either width or height, and you can specify to keep the same aspect ratio. The number of megabytes will depend on the compression that's used in the export. The picture is not cropped this way.

I think I told you some of the things dimensions can mean. And we have been asked about each of them here. Did they not occur to you?

Still no answer about where the Export dialog is.

As I said, you can use the Export dialog on your Mac, but not on the iPad.

Well, why mention it, then?! I specifically said I'm using an iPad, not a Mac!

I mentioned it because, and only because, you asked about it.

You also need to tell us what you mean by "dimensIons" Do you want the number of pixels to change? Do you want the ratio of width to height (called the aspect ratio) to change? Do you want the number of megabytes to change so the file is smaller? Do you want the megabytes to change without changing the number of pixels? Do you want to crop the picture so that it's smaller by missing a bit. Do you want to see it bigger on the screen? Do you want it in 3D?

Keep in mind that Photos is a non-destructive editor, and so the original picture file is never changed. As Yer_Man said, changes are made to the way you see it on the screen or in making a new file for printing or transferring.

Which iPad model are you using? I have nothing like this on my iPad 8. There is an "Options" button, but nothing there about dimensions. The dialog box you've shown isn't in Photos on my iPad 8.

It's not in the Photos App, it's in the Preview app.

As I said, you need to tap on tap on the share icon

at the top (of the Photos app). From the top row of apps select Preview, if it's not there, swipe to the end the row of apps and tap on More... and then look for "Preview" there.

The Adjust Size option is in the Preview app.

The Preview App is built into iOS 26.

Do note, this will make a copy of the Image with the modifications in the Files app, the original in the Photos app will not be altered.

Yep, I just found it in the App Store. I had apparently uninstalled it, thinking I wouldn't need it. So, I have just reinstalled it. I can see, under "i" (information) everything about the photo, including the dimensions, and if I change the orientation of the image, it automagically changes the dimensions. With some fiddling around, I could get it to 1500 pixels on the long dimension. Thanks!
