Files app a disaster after iOS 26 update

After updating to iOS 26 (iPhone 14 pro) I can no longer double tap on pictures in the “Files” app to zoom in.

Swiping images down to get back to the overview is weirdly buggy as well.

Anyone know why? Tried everything from resetting the phone to removing and reinstalling the Files app.

No issues on the Files app are caused by iOS26.2. Many things can cause problems with the Files app.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

I think you're the first to suggest this issue with the Files App that I have seen. And I just tried to do what you suggest isn't working in the Files App on my iPhone running iOS 26.2 and everything works as it has always worked. I'm not doubting it isn't working the same on your phone, but it's not an issue with iOS 26. Are you updated to iOS 26.2? Have you Force Restarted your iPhone (something I do after EVERY iOS update) --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

OP is absolutely correct and the reply condescendingly saying he’s asking the wrong questions is awfully quick to judge.

i can confirm every bit of the behavior reported by OP. I turned off the preview app and am using the files app the same way as I was prior to updating to iOS 26 but the gestures are totally ruined. It often fails to swipe left and right, almost always fails to swipe up or down to close an image (I usually have to pinch it to close,) and double tap to zoom fails most of the time as well.

they did something to the gesture behavior and have basically broken it.

Not a fan of the Files app myself, so I can relate, but I don't have similar issues myself.

I reread your initial post and that does not provide many clues for people like @SravanKrA

As you can see at the level and #posts, they don't just accidentally walk by and try to be rude. They almost live here on the community.

(Please don't take this too personal. Yes I write this to you, but it is more a common observation that members post a question and hardly any pointers.)

Maybe you could upload a small file where your issue shows? Visualisation always helps. Or upload a screen recording to an external source and paste the link here.

I hope your issue gets sorted. Nothing more annoying than a phone that doesn't do what it is expected to.

Wish you all the best!

That’s an overly confident statement to make.

I delayed updating to iOS26 for this reason. Files/iCloud worked “ok” before the update. It had its faults (recent files constantly shifting an changing) but nothing like this before.

No, there are no pending updates.

No, my iPhone isn’t jailbroken.

Yes, my iCloud subscription is active.

Yes, I am logged in everywhere.

Double tap to zoom in when viewing photo’s

in Files doesn’t work. Swiping down to get back

to the overview either doesn’t work 7/10 times

and the 3 times it does, it requires a GROSS

exaggeration of swiping it down.

This problem does not occur on the regular

Photo’s app or any other app for that matter.
