Sound glitching not playing for videos, alarms, apps on iPhone 17 pro max iOS 26.2

Currently I have a new iPhone 17 pro max.  It’s running iOS 26.2.  Starting today my sound when playing any video or streaming service or my alarms will only briefly play sound for about a half second and then everything is silent.  Sometimes an alarm won’t sound at all.  My watch will properly vibrate but phone has volume all the way up but no sound or vibration.  Turning silent mode on or off has no effect on the issue.  I assume a phone reboot will fix my problem but I’d rather pinpoint the source of what I assume is a bug in iOS 26.2.  I ruled out speaker issues since the same sound glitch happens with AirPods in my ears.  Same issue happens with Bluetooth disabled as well.  Turning off attention aware features also didn’t fix my issue. No focus (do not disturb) is active. Turning silent mode on or off or changing volume has no fix. If I’m on instagram and scroll to a new reel, the reel will play the very first half second and then no sound, even when the video loops again. Scrolling to new reel will make that one briefly sound. If I set an alarm it makes the alarm sound very briefly then is silent. I tried a phone call on speaker phone and that sound works continuously. Just any app sound is broken, including iOS native apps like alarms. I was late for work this morning due to not waking from the alarm that ran for the 15 minutes silently without waking me since the first half second alarm sound wasn’t enough to awaken me. Frustrating! Another interesting symptom is that when playing a video from my library the video will pause itself just a second into the video when the sound stops working.

If the alarm volume is too low or quiet

Do Not Disturb, the Ring/Silent switch and Silent mode don't affect the alarm sound. If you use the Ring/Silent switch or Action button to turn on Silent mode or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm still sounds.

If your alarm doesn't sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume up or volume down button to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringtone and Alerts.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarms tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm will play at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones.
  • When you use StandBy, haptics for your alarms are disabled. To make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None: open the Clock app, tap the Alarms tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.

Manually adjusting the time on your iPhone in Settings to change app behaviour, like game timers, isn't recommended and can affect alarms.

If the issue is with a third-party app which you are using for playing video or streaming then...

The app developer may not have updated their software to ensure compatibility with the iOS version your device is currently running.

If you encounter any challenges with third-party applications, the best course of action is to directly contact the app developer for further assistance. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

  1. Identify the app developer.
  2. Visit their website or app store listing.
  3. Look for their contact information or support channels.
  4. Clearly describe the issue you are facing.
  5. Provide any necessary information they may need.
  6. Follow their instructions and provide feedback.
  7. Be patient and follow up if needed.

By reaching out to the app developer, you increase your chances of receiving accurate and personalized support for the challenges you're experiencing. To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
