Are Scratches Normal?

The answer would be circumstantial. No. Scratches are NOT normal —not when opened right out-of-the-box. Nor is that expected, for that matter. If that is how it is out-of-the-box, then you should return it, as it is a faulty device.


Take to an Apple Store:

You'd setup a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store, taking it in for service. There, it will be diagnosed, and you'll be provided with your options.

Contact Apple Support:

I would contact Apple Support, letting them know of what has occurred here. Show this to Apple, by performing some screensharing with the Apple Rep while on the phone. Doing so, the Apple Rep will see what is going on from YOUR perspective.
