App Store does not recognize my purchase of Logic Pro from years ago

I purchased Logic Pro for $200 on MacBook Pro back in 2012. I have never installed it on my iMac, but now I want to install it.

On my iMac, I open App Store and I can see Logic Pro in my purchase history, and it lets me download it, but then when I open it, it says "In order to use Logic Pro you need to update to the latest version. Download the latest version from the App Store."

When I go to the App Store and do a search for Logic Pro, my only option is to pay $200 to buy Logic Pro again. What gives? If you're wondering whether I'm properly logged into my account, I am sure that I am logged in because it's within App Store that I can see my previous purchase of Logic Pro.

How to resolve this?

iMac 27″, macOS 26.2

You must have bought Logic Pro 9, which from 2011 till 2013 (when Logic Pro X came out) was sold in the App Store. Logic Pro 9 is simply no longer compatible with current versions of macOS, that is the error message you see.

Because the App Store does not support update pricing, when Logic Pro X came out, it was a new purchase. For the past 12 years all updates have been free, which–as far as I remember–is probably close to a record in the commercial software industry. The upcoming Logic Pro (now at version 12) will be also a free update – Apple already announced that.

When Apple Silicon was released in 2020 and Apple dropped the "X" in "Mac OS X", it was also dropped in the name of "Logic Pro X" and "Final Cut Pro X". But this was just a renaming.

Thanks for the reply. This turned out to be untrue, unfortunately. The person I spoke with on the phone told me that Logic Pro was one purchase, and Logic Pro X is a different purchase. I puchased Logic Pro, not Logic Pro X. And then Logic Pro X rebranded to Logic Pro. So even though it looks like I purchased Logic Pro, I didn't purchase Logic Pro, because I didn't purchase Logic Pro X (now called Logic Pro)...

Coupled with all the nightmare performance and functionality issues I've been having since updating to Tahoe, I'm thinking I'm done with Apple.

No worries. You don't need to purchase Logic again, if you've bought it in the AppStore with your AppleID.

Sometimes you have to manually trigger the download by visiting the AppStore as if you were buying it. Sometimes you need to quit and re-load the appstore or do a restart of your computer. However, you always need to be logged in to the AppStore with your AppleID. If you still can't download the App, contact Apple Support, which is the best place to get answers related to your account.
