not able to update apps

my MacBook has 3 app updates in the App Store. cannot update them because they were purchased with a different apple account. Does this mean someone else has owned this computer. I thought I purchased new in jan 2026, and I have not used any other apple account. any insights, thoughts, or suggestions?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.2

Those are pre-installed apps but are not automatically linked to your account. They should offer a "accept into account" option in the Update screen.

If that is not an option then simply dragging them to the trash from the Applications folder in Finder, emptying the trash and redownloading them from the App Store should resolve the issue.

Do you see the Apple Account user's name when you attempt to update these apps? Do you recognize that person?

Could a friend or relative have used your Mac to download these apps?

No one here can say if the Mac was owned by someone else. Only Apple might be able to confirm that. Where did you you buy the Mac? Can you check with the seller?

Bottom line on the apps, only the account that installed them can update them. If you want the apps and wish the updated versions, you will need to delete them and redownload them with your Apple Account. If they are paid apps, you will need to buy them.
