iPad Mail app and app closing issues after iOS 26.2 update

My iPad was updated to iOS 26.2. I don’t like this new version as it has changed the look of my mail as well as stopping me from doing things like…swiping up on my screen to get rid of pages I visited. When I swipe up the pages all come into view and then disappear except for maybe two which I then delete. This is just one issue. On my mail when I want to add contacts on a message there used to be a column next to the name with the letters from a to z which I just had to tap and it would go directly to the name. Now I have to scroll through all the names to get the one I want. It was so much simpler in the older version.

If your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

In context of your Mail, assuming that you are using the native Mail App, I'm having difficulty understanding the nature of your problem.

When composing an email message, to add recipients from Contacts, simply tap the "+" icon at the right of the To field. This will open a window that shows your contact list - from which you can tap the name of a contact from the alphabetical list.

Thanks. I always hit the plus sign and my contact list came up without the alphabetical list. I tried now after your reply and …..surprise, it’s there. A glitch or do you have magical powers? 😁 I’m still experiencing issues with my desktop and trying to erase pages I’ve opened by swiping up to show them all and then swiping each one up to delete them. They appear and the immediately disappear except for possibly two or three. Also, my desktop blurs whenever I swipe something and then I have to leave my desktop and come back in for my wallpaper and icons to come back.
