iPod shuffle not recognized by Music or Finder

My iPod shuffle is not being recognized in iTunes Music nor my MacBook Pro's Finder. It is being recognized on my iPhone. I need it to connect with computer to control/manage exactly what is downloaded. Any suggestions are appreciated.
