Is there a particular thing that you need assistance with on the Files app?
I use the Files app every day for access to my iCloud files and to scan documents and it works very well for it's simple purpose.
The only change related to iOS 26 was that the new Preview app became the default app for opening nearly anything from the Files app. The easy fix for that is to simply set a new default app to "open with" as described in Find and view files and folders in Files on iPhone - Apple Support

I understand your frustration. We all hate it when workflows are interrupted by changes that often seem unnecessary. I bet that if you spend a few minutes playing with the new iOS you will find a new workflow that works for you.
I recently had the need to scan a lot of documents while on travel and found that after a few minutes of learning curve I was able to create great scans directly from the Files app from my iPhone with iOS 26.2. It worked so well for me that I uninstalled the Microsoft Lens app and relegated the Scanner Pro app. Files is now my go to for document scans when I only have my phone.
Here are Apple's instructions on how to Scan documents with your iPad camera - Apple Support. I hope that after a little experimentation you an make it work for you. If you want to use the Camera app instead, you can still tap the share icon after taking a photo and then tap Save to Files to accomplish that. One other way would be to take several photos, select them in the Photos app, and then use the share button to send them to Files.
I hope this helps.
Have you tried the files app since the upgrade? I do counted cross stitch where a stitcher works off a chart. Before the upgrade I would take a picture of the chart, using the camera app, then send it to the file app. It was extremely easy for me to do. Now that feature was taken out by Apple. I was able to “scan” the chart today, but after I scanned it, it seemed to go into an editing mode, where a blue type screen overlaid on the chart. Could not figure out how to save it. Somehow I did get it to save, but can’t figure out how I did it. Would rather go back to the old version.
