No Calls or SMS after iOS16.7.13 earlier today

We have 2 x iPhone 8Plus. Earlier today we installed the apple - recommended iOs update to v 16.7.13 to address Triple Zero issues here in Australia.

Now we can not make calls, send SMS and have no 4G connection. I have tried the steps suggested online, namely

Turn off & on again, remove and reinsert SIM, resett network settings

Can I revert to the version prior to that one?

Per Telstra page, Update is now available:

Update 29 Jan 2026 at 3:30PM (AEDT):

  • Apple has released a carrier settings update to fix this issue
  • To install the update, follow these instructions:
    • Connect your impacted iPhone to Wi-Fi
    • Tap Settings > General > About
    • Accept the carrier settings update by tapping “OK”
    • Confirm the update installed by going to Settings > General > About and make sure it says “Telstra 54.1” next to Service Provider
  • If the Service Provider version does not show “Telstra 54.1” check you’re connected to Wi-Fi and repeat the steps above.

I too am experiencing this. I updated my iOS this morning to v16.7.13. Since then my iPhone 8 will not allow me to make or receive calls, send & receive text and access the internet using my SIM. Essentially anything to do with my SIM / carrier function, do not work. If I connect using WiFi, it will work, but still won't be able to make or receive calls.

I need this sorted ASAP.

Same experience. This is a major issue, with emergency implications especially for people without home WIFI. I was brushed off by the Apple Store staff in Canberra yesterday afternoon, and had similar experience with Telstra. I have been forced to raise the matters with Minster Wells. It reminds me of the Optus outage. Apple and Telstra senior executives should be taking this more seriously!

All fixed, what a relief.

Clearly a "programmer error" & scary, I felt totally lost without my phone, but we are all human & mistakes happen.

The best part was Telstra Australia was "on to it" quickly & my interactions with Apple were superb. Kept me informed & were genuinely concerned. Great customer support.

I'll be holding onto my trusty clapped out iPhone 8 until all the app updates force me out.

This does not help nor apply if the update was done in the first 24-36 hours after the update was released... it *was* signed then, and was installable. However, if there is an issue with iOS 16.7.13 that is not related to "No Calls or SMS", and the affected iPhone models (i.e. 8, 8 Pro, X), this might warrant it's own thread, as I think this one is effectively resolved now.

As a side note, I really appreciate the moderator removing the link from my post, and leaving it in all the others prior. Great consistency there!

As you saw in the post replied to, they had previously attempted to install the update and if failed due to the verification and that is because it was no longer being signed. Downloading a version supplied from a third party site and installing that ipsw with iTunes can certainly be problematic. Downgrading using a version from a site such as that can also result in complete data loss depending on if there is a backup available.

Users now will still see the iOS 16.7.13 as an available update, but it will not be installed even if you have Automatic Updates turned on.

Certainly if you have an issue with 16.7.13 that was installed earlier and the issue was not resolved by the Telstra Carrier Update for those users affected, creating a new post would be the appropriate route to take.
