How do I update my iPhone to iOS 16.7.3?

Only the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or X can update to the latest release of iOS 16.

• Any older phone is too old to update as far as iOS 16.
• Any more recent phone will be offered iOS 18 or 26, whichever is the highest major version that it can run. Most apps that require iOS 16 require "iOS 16 or later" and would work on one of these iPhones.

Note that Apple temporarily pulled some of the iOS 12, 15, 16, 18, and 26 updates issued on January 26 – although they might have fixed the problem by the time you read this.
