I found a work-around for copying and pasting between versions 14.5 and 15.1. While in "old" document created in 14.1, select File, Open... and navigate to the "new" document created in 15.1. Select the "new" document even though it may already be open. A window appears with the "new" document opened in Pages 14.5. You can now copy and paste between the "new" document and the "old" document because they were both opened by Pages 14.5. This is all counterintuitive and unlike Apple of old.

In other words, both documents have to be open in the same version of Pages. With versions 14.5 and 15.1, you can do that, which is weird.

This seems like... overkill. Just open the Pages 14.x document in 15.x and you're set.

There is NO problem copying between two documents open in Pages 15 (regardless of which version the document was originally authored in)... so you can just open both documents side-by-side and copy/paste away to your heart's content.

There are no Apple employees participating in these strictly fellow user-supported, public communities. We can't answer or even speculate about "why" questions on behalf of internal Apple product team decisions.

If you review some of the other preceding posts in the Pages community, there have already been several discussions about the copy/paste discrepancy between Pages v14.5 .vs. Pages v15.1.1. Apple never expected users to co-exist both application versions, since Pages v14.5 will not receive future updates. Apple even throws a dialog suggesting Pages v14.5 removal.

Pages v15 and later does not impose any mandatory subscription to Apple Creator Studio. There are features within Pages v15 that can be unlocked with a Studio subscription, but again, that is optional. I have opened older Pages documents without issue in Pages v15 and documents created with it have opened in considerably older versions of Pages.

Your wording gives me pause for thought...

> I cannot copy one Page document and paste it on to another Page document

What do you mean '... one Page document'...? do you mean an actual .pages document, like in the Finder?

You can't copy an entire document file into a new Pages document. You should open the document in Pages.app, then select and copy the content to a new/different document.

Apologies if I've misinterpreted your words, but that's the first thing I heard when I read your post.

You cannot copy/paste text (or drag a text clipping) from Pages v15.1 into a Pages v14.5 document — or the reverse.

Apple has marked Pages v14.5 as outdated and ready for user removal. Apple does not intend them to co-exist. Consequently, there is no user remedy for this issue and I expect no bug either. Otherwise, Apple wouldn't throw this dialog when attempting to open a Pages v14.4 document in Pages v14.5:

Pages v15.1 has preserved all of the My Template customizations. Some of these date back years, though after Pages '09 was replaced by Pages v5.

Does that surprise you? I can open an AppleWorks 6.2.9 document in LibreOffice Writer and copy/paste into Pages v15.1 too. Neither of these third-party applications have anything to do with Apple blocking the copy/paste interaction between both Pages versions.

Have the same issue, all templates created in the old version are useless now and I have to recreate them one by one.

Every template that I have created in Pages v5.6.2 and later opens in Pages v15.1.1. None were removed.

This is either a big middle finger to Apple users or the coding was outsourced to some middle school as a charity project.

It is Apple's product that it licenses to you for free. Whether accidental or deliberate, Apple is not developing their products based on user committee participation. There are third-party alternative applications available, some also free, and you will have no control over their future development either.

I am just going to learn LibreOffice and am testing different apps to replace Photos. I have about 7-9 old libraries. I have 5 to 6 macs I used and every time I upgrade, just a nightmare.

I've moved from Final Cut to Blender, Inkscape, I still like Garageband because no learning curve, BUT I downgraded to Sequoia. Think it is time to just Use my Macs instead of fixing problems.

Stick with keynote because I've used it for more than 25 years, like Garageband simple nd I know how to do it but not going to upgrade anymore. My M2 mini will live in Sequoia.

Why are Apple Pages preventing loyal Macbook Air customers now from copying and pasting text from the recent but now seemingly former Pages (which we have used for years) into the new style Pages (App) document, even on the same Macbook Air? Disappointed with such incompatibility from Apple. Also disappointed that we have such sudden notice about the older Pages being taken out of action at such short notice. Finding the new style Pages less user friendly too. You really need to enable us to have time to convert many documents and be able to copy and paste from the old Pages into the new. You may lose a lot of custom and once loyal clients through this.

Not true. Try writing about thing Apple wants to supress and you will see they "violate" Apple's delicate sensibilities.

There are Apple employees, called "Hosts" who make sure that everyone here follows the rules in the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we signed up here. Reading for feedback and suggestions and making sure they get to the right people is not part of their remit. If you want Apple to know your thoughts, use the proper channels:

IdrisSeabright clarified this for you in a later post. Again, no Apple employees will reply to your post, though the Apple hosts may alter or remove entirely a post at their discretion — if it violates the terms of use here. Pointlessly ranting about Apple is a good way to achieve this, and could ultimately lead to your loss of community access.
