my phone randomly started overheating and then there was black lines and ghost images all over. I was about to fall asleep to my night time playlist when the screen glitches and my phone felt so hot it almost burned me. Even after it was off I could still see the screen as if it was on. I’m wondering if there’s any way to fix this or if someone could tell me the cause thanks (it’s an SE if that helps)

Heating could be because of many reasons. You can check the below link for the numbers of reasons :
If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support (IN)
But if it's too hot to handle. You might need to connect with the Apple support and declare it as safety issue :

Mainly this might also have happened due to battery overheating. You might need to check battery Health. If it's below 80% it time to get it changed and that might be the reason for overheating.
Setting > battery > battery health
If battery health is more than 80% the contact apple support. They will be able to help you out.
