Logic Pro 12: Missing Legacy/Ancient sounds

Hello everyone,

Sorry for my poor english.

I upgraded to logic pro 12 from last upgraded 11 version two days ago and

downloaded / installed all what wasn't from the new sounds library ( = a 94,27 Go Logic Pro Library.bundle exported to an external ssd).

In "Library" or hitting Y, before upgrading to V12, I could find some old stuff inside of Legacy/Ancient folder for each categories ( Such as Liverpool bass in "bass", Male rapper voice in "vocal" for instance etc.). Lots of this legacy and ancient stuff has become favorites.. but I'm unable to find it in V12.

Is it gone with V12 for the first time ?!? Is there a way to recover all this legacy/ancient material ?

Thank you a lot in advance !

Go to the Sound Library (Logic Pro menu). Click on "Manage Packs". You should be able to add the legacy Logic 10 sounds back. Mine were missing, also. I did this, it's all back. Be sure to update anything needing it, also.

Ha cool and good to know that you can delete those 8 folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic (and free 70 and some Go on the main drive) !

As for me, I deleted ( Don't know how I managed to do this... Age and brain getting old certainly :) )... Audio Music apps folder at /user/Music/, generating loss of content in Logic 12 ( Gone Liverpool bass and some other things too like channel strips settings presets for final mix... although Legacy is still there in LP 12 library).

After restart, Logic re creates another Audio Music apps folder but still some issues.

Fortunately, I made another error...: This was not the 8 folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic that I had saved on an external ssd (to test if they could be deleted without creating any trouble in Logic and be able to paste them back in case of troubles - what You tested with success -) but... The Audio Music apps folder ! Yes..

And switching from a ssd to another, I deleted this "backup"..

Meaning that If I had not made this 2nd error, I would have deleted the 73+ Go 8 folders and would be in real trouble ! :)

For about a quarter, I believed that that's what I had done and was very very embarrassed lol.

Thx God, the 8 folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic are still there and intact.

However, because of the 1st error, I haven't found better than to reinstall a 2nd time LP12 and redownload/install/update the new "Sounds Library", still in process right now :)

Tomorrow, I'll do the same than today ( hopefully without errors !) but I'll check that I find the legacy channel strips settings presets for final mix before deleting the 8 folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic (that I'm going to save on two separate disks.. in case..).

Hello,

Back to before yesterday last errors and legacy visible/usable in LP 12's library.

I now have 3 .bundle saved and the last one is 93,02 Go sized and this is the one in use (largest 94,35 Go might not mean better :) )

I also externally saved the 8 folders /Library/Application Support/Logic and still have to delete them from the mac drive.

  • About apple loops: Is 27 651 the number of loops that you have in LP 12 ?

  • I tried to ckeck if the 8 folders (from /Library/Application Support/Logic) 's content had been integrated in LP 12.

Ok for "Alchemy samples"

Ok (of course) for the copied/pasted "Channel strip settings"

Ok for "EXS Factory samples"

Ok for "Plug-in settings"

Ok for "Project Templates"

NOK for"Sampler instruments" : lots of .exs missing (exemple with Electronic drum kit) in the LP 12 Sampler legacy library (see screenshot)

NOK for "Samples-> Quick sampler" ( Can't find, in LP 12, any of the 64 .Audio AIFF located in the Quick sampler folder

NOK for Ultrabeat Samples: Some sounds missing in LP12 (see screenshot)

Is the missing "legacy content" mentioned above also missing for you ?

Do you have any idea of if it could be pasted somewhere in LP 12 .bundle or somewhere else ?

My .bundle file is 94.84Gb in size.

"About apple loops: Is 27 651 the number of loops that you have in LP 12 ?"

I have 27 652, but one of those is one I created. Interestingly enough, my GarageBand has 32 829 Apple Loops.

When I opened GB today (I still use it occasionally to play with), to look at a track I previously did, it did a download of instruments and rebuilt the Library/Application Support/Logic folder

I actually deleted everything in Library/Application Support/Logic folder, but on opening GB, it repopulated so I'm thinking GB is somehow using that library and found it missing? It follows the logic that Apple does with it's apps.

However, when it repopulated that folder, it only replaced what GB uses and not all the files that it had before. It's only 17.69 Gb now.

All the loops in LP appear in GB, but there are GB MIDI loops that do NOT appear in LP12 even when I copy over a file. However, I can right-click the .caf file and choose Open with Logic Pro app (default) and it will open as an audio file in Logic Pro but still does not appear in the Apple Loops.

Here's what I did:

Loops used by GB are found in the Library/Audio/Apple Loops folder. We'll use 2-Step Poolside Guitar.caf

In GB, this is a MIDI loop

I copied over the 2-Step Poolside Guitar.caf to the .bundle into the appropriate folder

On opening LP12, 2-Step Poolside Guitar.caf does not appear in the Loop Browser

However, when I right-click to open...

It will open as an Audio Loop instead of a MIDI loop, yet still doesn't appear in the Loop Browser. And it plays fine.

It used to be that you could import all loops from GB to use in LP but I don't know why they took that capability away. Looking for another workaround in this area as there are over 6000 loops missing from LP12. Nuts.

  • My .bundle after last LP12 installation is "only"93,02 Go sized. ( the previous one, still externally saved , is 94,35 Go sized.

Maybe the difference with yours comes from saved projects ?!?

  • My garage Band has... 33154 Apple loops ( All Apple ones). (And just noticed that not everything is yet dowloaded..)

  • As for you, when I opened GB, it created a new /Library/Application Support/Logic main folder but... mine is only 862,7 Mo sized !?!

As for you (again), I would rather avoid a fresh new installation (And how to do a full clean uninstallation without missing any "secrete" file ?!? Knowing that putting the app in the basket is far from enough).

And I Still have nightmares about installing and authorizing Native instruments etc.. And I'm not ready to spend a few days to redownload the third content libraries.

We need a fix ! And me to rest my old brain héhé !
