Logic Pro 12: Missing Legacy/Ancient sounds

Hello everyone,

Sorry for my poor english.

I upgraded to logic pro 12 from last upgraded 11 version two days ago and

downloaded / installed all what wasn't from the new sounds library ( = a 94,27 Go Logic Pro Library.bundle exported to an external ssd).

In "Library" or hitting Y, before upgrading to V12, I could find some old stuff inside of Legacy/Ancient folder for each categories ( Such as Liverpool bass in "bass", Male rapper voice in "vocal" for instance etc.). Lots of this legacy and ancient stuff has become favorites.. but I'm unable to find it in V12.

Is it gone with V12 for the first time ?!? Is there a way to recover all this legacy/ancient material ?

Thank you a lot in advance !

Go to the Sound Library (Logic Pro menu). Click on "Manage Packs". You should be able to add the legacy Logic 10 sounds back. Mine were missing, also. I did this, it's all back. Be sure to update anything needing it, also.

I finally found that all the missing stuff is located on my main drive ( not in the "Sound Library" exported to the external ssd), at "/Library/Application Support/Logic/" and in "Sampler instruments" folder there.

However, I have no idea of how to proceed in order to have this content showing up/ available in Logic Pro 12.

If anyone knows or have an idea of how to do this, I'd be grateful forever.

Hello and thank you for your answers,

Everything (including legacy logic 10 sounds, intruments, loops etc..) from the sound Library in Logic Pro menu has been downloaded, uppgraded (when it had to) and installed (see the whole "Manage pack" window and " Legacy logic 10 sounds" screenshots attached as an exemple. All available packs are updated and installed according to "Manage Packs", I checked each of them).

Unfortunately, still no legacy/ancient stuff showing up hitting Y or clicking the library icon at the top left of the UI.

Part of the downloads/packsupgrades have been made AFTER that I moved Logic Pro libraries( The new Logic Pro Library.bundle file) from its initial location to an external ssd.

Maybe the dowloads/upgrades made after this move didn't change anything to the ssd's Logic Pro Library.bundle file, although, in Logic Pro 12, it's path is correctly saved and showing up in Libray settings which indicates the new Logic Pro Sound library location. Maybe those packs downloads/upgraded are saved somewhere else on my main drive.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the initial Logic Pro Sound library location path...

In case that you didn't move your Logic Pro sound library to an external drive, would you please send a screenshot of its "by default' location path ? So that I can check this ? ( Google searching, I could'nt find this info). Thank you in advance in this case !!

Next step would be to uninstall Logic pro 12 and reinstall it. But.... I have lots of third party stuff installed ( Native instruments, Toontrack, celemony, Spectrasonics etc) and as I never did it, had to do it, I'm afraid that it could generate unexpected big mess/ new or other difficulties.

Cheers from France !

Hi guys,

Same problem here too: all my previous v10/11 Jam Packs and Legacy sounds are missing in the new v12 library.

Strangely, when I open an older v11 project, the JP and Legacy sounds are still there but none can be found in the actual v12 library. I have tried deleting LP12 and all its v12 packs, re-downloading everything and updating every single possible sound library that v12 has to offer and still nothing! (Interestingly, I am offered only a grand total of 43.42GB to download for all packs, including JPs and Legacy ones).

Looking in my /Library/Application Support/Logic folder (70GB large), my Sampler Instruments folder is only 97.8MB large so that can't be the source of the JP and Legacy sounds. My Alchemy Samples and EXS Factory Samples are 16GB & 53GB large respectively but I wouldn't know what to do with them to make them "active".

Very keen to help troubleshoot with you guys until we get this sorted out, as long as it takes!

When you copied the "channel strip folder" from Library/Application Support/Logic • to the .bundle file( after right clicking it to show its content and paste in to it) , do you mean that you copied/pasted the 5 "channel strip folder" sub folders (Bus, Instruments,Master,Output,Tack) or only the Instruments subfolder ?

I just dragged the entire Channel Strip Settings folder while holding down the keys Shift+Option (Alt). This copied the entire folder including all subfolders.

Hope this helps.

Yes it helps !

I'll check tomorrow if - like you- I find those files in the.bundle.

One thing is sure: I didn't find them using Sampler's legacy library in LP12 but there are in Library/Application Support/Logic folders (Deleted on the main drive but saved on an external one, in case).

Idem, I can't find the "quick sampler" 's 64 AIFF (located inside the Library/Application Support/Logic "Samples"folder ) in LP 12 using its ..Quick sampler :)

What also intrigues me is that part of the missing/not found files in LP 12 are .exs.

As I said, I'll check tomorrow if, not found in LP12, I find them however in its .bundle (as you did).

Yes, it's a flaw on Apples's part. I guess that they were on a hurry to release the new subscription model..

After using Logic pro for +/- 16 years, this is the first time that I run in to this kind of issues. Never had only one before LP12 ! I hope for a fix too and hopefully a quick one but... I wouldn't bet on that.

Looking back as to how much time I spent, I found several sites suggesting that upgrade killed the app but a fresh, clean install makes everything work. Like you, I have way too many 3rd party apps such as Native Instruments, MusikHack, iZotope, Air, Akai, MPC, etc.

I really didn't want to have to go reinstall everything due to having to go through the licensing bureaucracy which is a huge pain as I had to before. I'm thinking of backing up the .bundle file and Time Machine tonight, grabbing all that I can from the 3rd parties, and doing a fresh install later in the coming weeks. I just want to complete this album first and deal with the missing on a per project basis for now.

Did anyone out there, who didn't have these issues, did you get all the GB loops and sounds, including the GB MIDI loops?

Jan 30, 2026 10:42 PM in response to BenB

This didn't work for me. I must be missing something. Mine weren't missing when I upgraded and on install, I updated all packs. Everything is downloaded and updated. I even deleted the "compatibility" packs, quit, restarted the machine, reinstalled the packs, quit, restarted the machine, and still nothing. Sound Library shows the legacy packs installed but they're just not showing in the Library for some reason.

I know they're using a new file system via the .bundle in the Music folder so I don't know how this is actually supposed to work. I feel that I'm missing like an "activate" the installed pack or something.

Not to mention, I used to have some 30k+ loops in Apple Loops before, now there's less than 28k.

Thank you for your answer.

The userFolder > Music is empty.

I found the legacy content on my Mac drive at "/Library/Application Support/Logic/" and in "Sample instruments" (While the new "Sounds library" has been moved to an external ssd after Logic was upgraded to V12). Il looks like this legacy content hasn't been packed/transfered in to the new "Sounds library" V12 file (Logic Pro Library.bundle).

Great work/search !

I have to forget about time machine: on my mac 8 months old mac mini M4 pro, sequoia last version the 8 months old Kingston SSD NV3 1 To inside of its 8 months old ICY BOX IB-1816M-C31, especially purchased for time machine, only works if it remains plugged to the mac mini ! I saved my system 7 months ago and carefully store the ssd in a safe place. When I wanted to use it to restore logic 11, it didn't show up anymore on the desktop although still visible using disk utility but getting error messages tryingto fix the issue.

I had to format it again = Backup lost.

I did a new time machine back up 3 days ago: All good until I unplugged the ssd 2 days later. Same problem then.

So.. I formated the ssd again, new TM back up and I keep plugged to the mac until I know more about this issue.

What's strange is that I have another external ssd for the mac mini (Crucial X9 Portable 1 To) where are saved the new Sounds library, some datas and old projects: I don't have any problem if it's connected/disconnected fro m the mac.

To come back to the legacy library, apple loops etc.. issues, what's weird is that it looks like some users don't have the problem while other face it.

I hope that the Apple logic team sometimes have a look at this forum and fixes what has obviously to be fixed in a near future !

Thanks a lot for your help !

The mystery is getting deeper:

On 2nd screenshot's left side: What I can find on the mac drive at Library/Application Support/Logic ((Not the same arborescence than you ! And the legacy stuff that I'm looking for such as Liverpool bass etc is located in to the "Sampler instruments" folder containing .exs files (1st screenshot). This libray = 73,18 Go for the 8 folders)

On the 2ndt screenshot's right side: Logic Pro Library.bundle 's content (on the external ssd, where is now Logic pro sounds libray located): Here again, not the same arborescence than yours ! And I can't find any .exs file in any of its folders.

So I didn't copy/paste anything from Library/Application Support/Logic to Logic Pro Library.bundle 's package content :)

Thank you very much again for your answer(s), your in depth explanations and all the time spent to help !!

I will look closer at it tomorrow when I get up (and report).

Right now, I'm almost 100% sure that we have the same Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments content.

This afternoon, I finally uninstalled and reinstalled Logic pro 12 and this time didn't change the " Logic Pro Library.bundle" 's default location on the main drive. I'll do it when the whole new "Sound library" will have been downloaded and updated (Still in progress right now).

Two maybe "dumb" questions:

  • If you create an audio "Guitar / line" track, not a Midi instrument one, do you also see the legacy content in the library window ?
  • When you copied the "channel strip folder" from Library/Application Support/Logic to the .bundle file( after right clicking it to show its content and paste in to it) , do you mean that you copied/pasted the 5 "channel strip folder" sub folders (Bus, Instruments,Master,Output,Tack) or only the Instruments subfolder ?

Once again, thank you very very much for your help and all the time spent !! Really very nice from you and much appreciated ! You're a king :)

Excellent news! You're very welcome. I'm so glad I could help. =)

As to your question;

"Did you do anything with those folders ? (The whole 8 folders are 73,18 Go large on my main disk and I wonder If I may delete them or not and if they migrated to LP 12)."

No, I did not do anything with those folders. According to this: About the Logic Pro and MainStage sound library on Mac – Apple Support (UK) "The cloning operation requires no extra storage space. You don't have to delete the old sound library files to optimize storage space on your Mac." Of course, I don't see how this works.

If you want to experiment, you could move one of those folders to another location. Then open up LP and see if those particular assets disappear. If not, I would believe they would be safe to remove. I would suggest creating a new folder, placing all the folders inside and zipping/compressing them. Then, if you have room on your external drive, save a copy somewhere since you mentioned issues with your Time Machine. Then delete the above folders. This way if things go sideways, you have a backup.

"Yesterday: All files there in both cases, but with quite often different size (See an exemple screenshot for basses and piano). Isn't it 'strange'?"

I ran into this as well. The newer versions are larger and after putting both in LP library, I noticed there were tiny differences in the channel settings but no difference in sound. I, myself, just kept the newer versions.

Feb 2, 2026 10:19 AM in response to dsparks66

Yep , I thought of this experiment and the 8 folders are saved for a try ( at least, the "Channel strip" folder should be "deletable" as it's been copied to the .bundle).

I'll tell you quickly about the test.

In my case, last install files (from yesterday) are smaller than those from 5/6 days ago 1st LP 12 installation/upgrade from 11. I didn't test the sounds and kept the biggest one haha.

btw, whether would it be from 5/6 days ago or yesterday, they're all related to a LP 12 upgrade or reinstall so - I might be wrong - to LP12.

I don't know why but messages here don't look ordered according to the moment when they have been posted, chronologically => A bit of a mess and hard to follow if you weren't part of the discussion.
