Logic Pro 12: Missing Legacy/Ancient sounds

Same as most. Legacy folder is missing from the library, along with many preset in general. Legacy folder does appear in the software sampler instrument presets menu.

I went in to the Sound Packs and clicked on each pack that showed "Installed". About 50% of them or more had Updates.

A lot of the Sound Packs have Updates. You need to go into Manage Packs, click on each pack that shows, "Installed", and see it it offers an Update button. Many of the Sounds Packs have Updates!

The default location is in your userFolder > Music.

Same problem here too: all my previous v10/11 Jam Packs and Legacy sounds are missing in the new v12 library.

Strangely, when I open an older v11 project, the JP and Legacy sounds are still there but none can be found in the actual v12 library. I have tried deleting LP12 and all its v12 packs, re-downloading everything and updating every single possible sound library that v12 has to offer and still nothing! (Interestingly, I am offered only a grand total of 43.42GB to download for all packs, including JPs and Legacy ones).

Looking in my /Library/Application Support/Logic folder (70GB large), my Sampler Instruments folder is only 97.8MB large so that can't be the source of the JP and Legacy sounds. My Alchemy Samples and EXS Factory Samples are 16GB & 53GB large respectively but I wouldn't know what to do with them to make them "active".

Very keen to help troubleshoot with you guys until we get this sorted out, as long as it takes!

Interestingly enough, I deleted all packs and then moved the .bundle file from Music to an external drive and let LP12 rebuild the .bundle file and reclone everything. Then, Get All and updated all packs. Now the file size is 94.6 GB, in Info: 94,596,162,084 bytes (88.56 GB on disk)

If you create an audio "Guitar / line" track, not a Midi instrument one, do you also see the legacy content in the library window ?

Yes, but note they will be different.

When I have the Audio track selected, my library shows the appropriate settings that I can use on that audio track. This is the library that will show whether choosing mic/line or guitar/bass.

When I have the Software Instrument track selected, the library contents change but shows legacy settings that I can use with that track. This will also be the same library when creating Session and Pattern tracks as well, regardless of what you choose in the submenu for choosing the track, (Drummer, Bass, Keyboard). With the exception of External MIDI tracks...

External MIDI tracks will show this library, which of I haven't really dove into yet. I'm still learning. =)

UPDATE:

This will show you how much of noob I am...I just found out that I can simply drag and drop the missing .caf files from the Library/Audio/Apple Loops folder right into the Loops Browser in Logic Pro. That's it.

Of course, I would have to go through over 6000 loops to add but...a simple fix.

And it remains a MIDI loop, it doesn't convert to an Audio loop. =)

For everyone experiencing missing instruments and/or sounds, remember to report this as a bug to Apple here: Feedback - Logic Pro - Apple

The more people we are reporting this, the more likely it is Apple will do something to fix this bug!

Some old instruments are not hidden in Logic Pro 12, but actually removed completely - including some of the below:

- Acoustic Guitar Harmonics

- Piano and String Ensemble

- Pizzicato Ensemble

- Church Door Organ

- Space Keys

- Neverending Riser

- Antarctic Sun

- Rock Harpsichord

- Almost Harpsichord

- Old Robot Factory

- Massive Bells

If you really want to, you can always send an email to some of the YouTubers that make Logic Pro tutorials, some of the larger channels that are trustworthy you can go into the ”About” tab on their channel and find their email and send an email and ask them to provide send you their backup of Logic Pro 11 via Google Drive or WeTransfer. Some of them luckily has it and has been able to provide the old app.

Correct! And all real pro's I know have also decided to stay with Logic Pro 11.2.2 since that has all instruments, MIDI Loops etc. Move the app onto an external SSD and the Mac App Store update prompt is gone! 😊 I still appreciate your help though! 🙏🏼

Also, the royal school of music here in Sweden did the same, the teachers apparently found it suspicious that so much instruments and Loops from their Logic Pro that they previously owned just "happened" to get hidden/removed when Apple announced the subscription version of Logic Pro, where they might add "exclusive", "pro" content in the future... 🧐🕵🏼‍♂️

I'll still continue to send Apple feedback about this via their Logic Pro feedback form ( https://www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro/ ) and I encourage everyone to do the same, but I'll definitely also stay with Logic Pro 11.2.2 unless they fix this.

No, I haven't touched my LP12 yet (still waiting for response from Apple). I'm kind of puzzled though that we seem to have so different contents in our Libraries. Like I said earlier, most of my interesting instruments/sounds can be found in my Legacy folder in LP11. I believe that it holds decades of older content, but none of the guitars from your library can be found there.

It seems that you're in the wrong library. According to your screenshot, you're in your user library. You want the main library on your HD. =)
