Logic Pro 12: Missing Legacy/Ancient sounds

Hello everyone,

Sorry for my poor english.

I upgraded to logic pro 12 from last upgraded 11 version two days ago and

downloaded / installed all what wasn't from the new sounds library ( = a 94,27 Go Logic Pro Library.bundle exported to an external ssd).

In "Library" or hitting Y, before upgrading to V12, I could find some old stuff inside of Legacy/Ancient folder for each categories ( Such as Liverpool bass in "bass", Male rapper voice in "vocal" for instance etc.). Lots of this legacy and ancient stuff has become favorites.. but I'm unable to find it in V12.

Is it gone with V12 for the first time ?!? Is there a way to recover all this legacy/ancient material ?

Go to the Sound Library (Logic Pro menu). Click on "Manage Packs". You should be able to add the legacy Logic 10 sounds back. Mine were missing, also. I did this, it's all back. Be sure to update anything needing it, also.

This didn't work for me. I must be missing something. Mine weren't missing when I upgraded and on install, I updated all packs. Everything is downloaded and updated. I even deleted the "compatibility" packs, quit, restarted the machine, reinstalled the packs, quit, restarted the machine, and still nothing. Sound Library shows the legacy packs installed but they're just not showing in the Library for some reason.

I know they're using a new file system via the .bundle in the Music folder so I don't know how this is actually supposed to work. I feel that I'm missing like an "activate" the installed pack or something.

Not to mention, I used to have some 30k+ loops in Apple Loops before, now there's less than 28k.

I went in to the Sound Packs and clicked on each pack that showed "Installed". About 50% of them or more had Updates.

A lot of the Sound Packs have Updates. You need to go into Manage Packs, click on each pack that shows, "Installed", and see it it offers an Update button. Many of the Sounds Packs have Updates!

Hello and thank you for your answers,

Everything (including legacy logic 10 sounds, intruments, loops etc..) from the sound Library in Logic Pro menu has been downloaded, uppgraded (when it had to) and installed (see the whole "Manage pack" window and " Legacy logic 10 sounds" screenshots attached as an exemple. All available packs are updated and installed according to "Manage Packs", I checked each of them).

Unfortunately, still no legacy/ancient stuff showing up hitting Y or clicking the library icon at the top left of the UI.

Part of the downloads/packsupgrades have been made AFTER that I moved Logic Pro libraries( The new Logic Pro Library.bundle file) from its initial location to an external ssd.

Maybe the dowloads/upgrades made after this move didn't change anything to the ssd's Logic Pro Library.bundle file, although, in Logic Pro 12, it's path is correctly saved and showing up in Libray settings which indicates the new Logic Pro Sound library location. Maybe those packs downloads/upgraded are saved somewhere else on my main drive.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the initial Logic Pro Sound library location path...

In case that you didn't move your Logic Pro sound library to an external drive, would you please send a screenshot of its "by default' location path ? So that I can check this ? ( Google searching, I could'nt find this info). Thank you in advance in this case !!

Next step would be to uninstall Logic pro 12 and reinstall it. But.... I have lots of third party stuff installed ( Native instruments, Toontrack, celemony, Spectrasonics etc) and as I never did it, had to do it, I'm afraid that it could generate unexpected big mess/ new or other difficulties.

What's the overvall size of your "Logic Pro Sound library" after installing/upgrading all available packs from the new "SoundsLibrary" 's window ?

I had noticed it and (Checked everything one by one) everything from the new "Sounds library" window is intalled and updated;

Still no legacy/ancient in the "Library" (Y shortcut) !

would you please send a screenshot of its "by default' location path ?

The default location is in your userFolder > Music.

The userFolder > Music is empty.

I found the legacy content on my Mac drive at "/Library/Application Support/Logic/" and in "Sample instruments" (While the new "Sounds library" has been moved to an external ssd after Logic was upgraded to V12). Il looks like this legacy content hasn't been packed/transfered in to the new "Sounds library" V12 file (Logic Pro Library.bundle).

Mine shows 94.5 GB, in Info: 94,504,809,211 bytes (88.84 GB on disk)

If you right-click on Logic Pro Library.bundle, wherever you put it, you'll find that the .exs files found in the Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments folder have been relocated to different folders in the .bundle file. File structure has completely changed.

For example, you'll find Liverpool Bass.exs now in Logic Pro Library.bundle/Plug-In Settings/Sampler/z_Legacy/Bass. Why LP is not reading these files is a programmer thing and I don't know how to rectify that.

In doing a huge search, I've discovered that within the LP12 app Contents/Resources folder, 3 folders have been removed that were previously in LP11 Contents/Resources;

AppleLoopsIndex (which is now located in the new LPL.bundle Apple Loops folder and the extensions have been changed from .loopdata to .caf, thus no replacing missing loops with old files.)
Patches (now found restructured in the LPL.bundle, however missing quite a few .patch files from LP11 Contents. Note that these files found in the .bundle, can also be found again in the LP12 app Contents/Resources/UniversalPatches which is new) I'm coming back to this later.
Sampler Instruments (everything in this folder has been relocated, from what I've seen so far, into the .bundle/Plug-In Settings/Sampler folder)

I've also noticed that any folder beginning with "z_" is not being recognized. Going to do an experiment here in a sec.

I have been successful of moving .patch files into the .bundle and they work! Just a workaround for the necessary patches.

Here's what I did:

Created a folder named LP12, moved the new app into the folder. (I zipped and copied to another folder on an ext drive just in case.)
Using Time Machine, I restored LP11 back to Applications. I never opened the app. (I had to use this method since I didn't properly backup the LP 11 app as I should have.)
Right-clicking the LP 11 app, I opened Show Package Contents.
Copied over the entire contents (2.49GB) to its own folder on an external drive for backup.
Moved the LP11 to the Trash and placed the LP12 back into the Applications folder and deleted the LP12 folder.
Right-click Logic Pro Library.bundle and Show Package Contents. Went to Patches/Audio/Effects/Reverb
New Finder window and went to my backed up LP11 Contents/Resources/Patches/Audio/Effects/Reverb and copied over Darker Tone Large Garage.patch and pasted into the Reverb folder in the .bundle
Opened LP12, went to the folder and viola! it was there and it worked.

Of course, it would take a long time to go through all of the missing patches. I would rather Apple take care of what's not fixed but this is a workaround if you're on a time crunch.

I'll let you know what happens on further experimentation.

Hi guys,

Same problem here too: all my previous v10/11 Jam Packs and Legacy sounds are missing in the new v12 library.

Strangely, when I open an older v11 project, the JP and Legacy sounds are still there but none can be found in the actual v12 library. I have tried deleting LP12 and all its v12 packs, re-downloading everything and updating every single possible sound library that v12 has to offer and still nothing! (Interestingly, I am offered only a grand total of 43.42GB to download for all packs, including JPs and Legacy ones).

Looking in my /Library/Application Support/Logic folder (70GB large), my Sampler Instruments folder is only 97.8MB large so that can't be the source of the JP and Legacy sounds. My Alchemy Samples and EXS Factory Samples are 16GB & 53GB large respectively but I wouldn't know what to do with them to make them "active".

Very keen to help troubleshoot with you guys until we get this sorted out, as long as it takes!
