iPhone 14 screen can't be repaired, how long to wait?

Hi everyone. I recently dropped and smashed my iPhone 14, phone still powered on and worked (and I was able to attach it to iTunes and transfer data from the phone to my laptop) but I basically couldn't use the very bottom of the screen.

I took it to a local screen repair place last week, but when I came back to get it the guy said that when he tried to put a new screen on, the screen started to get hot, and that he'd need to wait a couple of days for the phone to cool down. It's been over a week now and he keeps saying come back in a couple of days, come back in a couple of days. Does this sound dodgy? I can see giving it a couple of days once, but surely if it's not fixable now after more than a week, it's not going to magically become fixable in a few more days?

Is it worth taking the phone to an Apple Genius Bar to see what they say?

Sure does.

Did you take the phone to the Apple Store / Genius Bar or an authorized Apple service shop? You can find a list of authorized shops using this link:

Find Locations

A non-authorized shop......who might claim to be an iPhone "specialist".....does not have access to genuine Apple replacement parts, so you would not want to try that route.

Absolutely. If the Genius Bar is not that convenient, double check to make sure that you are using an authorized shop. Hopefully the shop where the phone is now has not damaged the phone.

Unfortunately, if Apple detects tampering or unauthorized service, they will likely refuse to even look at the phone.
