How to disable iPhone Dictation beep in Silent Mode?

Hi there!

Every time I use Dictation (speech-to-text), my iPhone makes a beep sound even in Silent Mode. There’s a beep when the microphone starts and another one when the message is sent. How do I turn this off permanently? I’m so tired of hearing it.

Where is the logic here? Silent mode is supposed to be silent, meaning no sounds at all. Why isn't there a separate setting to disable this specific chime?

iPhone 12 mini, iOS 18

That double beep-boop when dictation starts and stops is a system sound, not a notification or alert. Apple treats it like a safety/feedback cue, so:

  • Silent Mode doesn’t mute it
  • Focus doesn’t mute it
  • There’s no toggle in Settings
  • Accessibility doesn’t offer a kill switch

In other words: Apple really wants you to know the mic is listening. Even when you very much do not want to know.
