Screen going black and disappearing icons

Can anyone tell me why this keeps happening?

My icons all disappear but the apps themselves are still there. Often coincides with my screen going black (not this time) and the phone is technically still on and able to, for example, receive a call but I am unable to answer it. I’m terrified of having an unresponsive phone incase of an emergency.

iPhone 7, iOS 13

iPhone Dimming:

Your iPhone (iPhone 7) is a bit old, and iOS updates are no longer provided for it. So, it may be a hardware error. But, before making that assertion, a few tings to perform...

A. Have a Hot iPhone?:

Does your iPhone feel hot? If so, this would occur for preventive measures. So, let it cool, leaving it in the mingle of the room, with the lights turned off, and indoor doors opened.

B. Update your iPhone Computer:

Other than updating on th iOS, itself, you can update through use of a computer. . User Tip: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. If any updates are available, they will install, sure enough. For more reliability, you can connect through Ethernet, using this adapter for more-modern Mac models: Belkin USB-C to 2.5Gb Ethernet Adapter - Apple. IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update.

C. Delete ALL Focuses:

If you have a Focus Profile, delete them all, rather than turning them all off. IMPORTANT: You'll need to create them later on; so, take a screenshot of each focus, so you can know how to reconfigure these.

  1. Go Here: Turn on or schedule a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Delete a Focus

What's Provided:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Focus
  3. Tap: [the Focus you no longer need]
  4. Scroll Down: to the bottom of the screen
  5. Tap: Delete Focus

D. Disable Auto Brightness.

Auto-Brightness is on by default. So, disable it:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Accessibility
  3. Tap: Display & Text Size
  4. Disable: Auto-Brightness (So it is not green, but grey)

Go Here: Adjust the Brightness on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch - Apple Support
