MacBook Pro reset fails: Find My asks for old Apple ID

I am trying to reset my MacBook Pro running macOS Tahoe. All the steps are fine until I get to Find My... I am asked to provide a password for the old AppleID email address that I used to use. I have not used that email address for more than two years. I am unable to go beyond this step.

For some reason I cannot find the post?? I do remember the steps, however.

Before commencing with the reset:

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Click on your Apple Account
  3. Click on iCloud
  4. Click on "See All" next to "Saved to iCloud"
  5. Switch "Find My Mac" from On to Off

That seemed to work. I was then able to reset my MacBook and get past the request for my old AppleID email address.

Hope it helps.
