If your iPhone tells you that it is "up to date", but it is not running the current version of iOS (iOS 26), that would be an indication that you have an older model that has already hit the "end of the line" with regards to major updates.
For instance, an iPhone 7 cannot update past iOS 15, and a iPhone 8 cannot update past iOS 16. The "up to date" messages that these phones display would just mean that the phone is as "up to date" as is possible.
