Thumb drive adapter not working with 2023 MacBook Air
2023 MacBook Air running Tahoe--I have an adaptor to connect the thumb drive to the laptop. This has always worked in the past, but not now.

And...figured it out. The printer I take things to doesn't print from Word docx files. Today I reformatted the file to a PDF and voila! It worked.
What changed?
The adapter could be worn out or just faulty.
It could also be the thumb drive itself. They are not the most robust devices around and some brands, especially the "off brands" or "rebrands".

XML Not Recognized in a Printer:
Word docx files is a file format. Only an extremely obsolete printer (pre-2007) computer would not recognize such a file, as XML series of MS Office filetypes was beginning to be put in use in 2007 MS Office releases. So, what's the model of this printer? I'd be a bit skeptical of older MS Office Versions running on a much newer macOS releases. You might need to upgrade to a more-recent MS Office version (2021 and 2024 and 365 are the only releases of MS Office that are provided with updates, as of this reply). Elsewise, I'd say remove the printer, and check it for updates in the screen itself. Download the drivers from the Manufacturer's site, as you'll get firmware an maintenance apps, aswell.
Presumably the OS. When I have a multi-page doc to print I put it on a thumb drive and take it to a printer. Did so yesterday, on multiple thumbs, and they all read as having "no file."
