Alternate response to “Hey Siri” prompt?
Is there a way to have Siri respond to “Hey Siri” with something other than “Mmhmm?” It’s teenager level disrespect and I don’t imagine anyone likes it.
iPhone 17 Pro Max, iOS 26

There is not way to change the response, but you also will not get one if you do not pause after saying "Hey Siri". There is no need to do that and the entire request can be made in one singular sentence. The initial pause was required for Google and Alexa and users who are migrating from those personal assistants seem to struggle the most by trying to break that habit or others that think they have to wait to be acknowledged. That is not necessary.

Hello~ After you say “Hey, Siri” don’t pause …just continue with your request and you will not hear the Mmhmm. Issue solved.

Without a pause, there will be no acknowledgement. That is how Siri is intended to be used.
If you were talking to your friend, you would not say "Hey Joe" and wait for him to say "Go Ahead", you would say "Hey Joe what time is it?"
It works every time.

Hello once more~Well …I guess I stand corrected then. I don’t pause so it’s not even an issue for me. You can however leave your feedback with Apple by clicking on below…
Leaving feedback is how Siri gets “smarter.” You take care now.

Thank you for answering my question, instead of telling me how to avoid the problem.
Apple lets us configure/customize so much of our experience, but they saddle us with this unfortunate choice. Perhaps that will change if Siri ever gets smarter.

Your tagline suggests you have an iPhone 17 Pro Max on iOS 26. Do you not have Apple Intelligence enabled on your iPhone? With Apple Intelligence, Siri no long says uh huh, but instead has a glow and sound if you pause after saying Hey Siri.
Ah, now that’s a great tip! I do not have Apple Intelligence activated. I will look into that at once. Thank you.
