When on a call with my iPhone 12, if caller sends me a text, or I go to check anything else on the phone and try to get back to the key/call pad, there's no red End Call button. I can't do anything except turn the device completely off.

Check your iPhone for Updates:
I see iOS 26 is shown for your iOS version. So, what is version of the iOS you have installed on your iPhone? iOS 26.2.1 is the most-recent non-beta release available. So, if that is not the version that is installed, then you need to have installed.
How to Update:
You can do so using a Computer. Alternatively, you can update through a computer (with Ethernet, if available), and through Cellular if 5G is available in your local area.

IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update
