Unable to find anything on Apple News using the search function

I have subscribed to Apple News for many years. Unfortunately it has become a source of frustration. I can no longer find anything. The search function is a misnomer. It just presents numerous unrelated results. I used to be able to kind of find things I was interested in but no more. It is hit or miss. Why should I continue my subscription?

As you no doubt know, Apple does keep on providing us with frequent updates, and new features without charge. Sometimes this means letting go the old ways of doing things and adopting new ones.

The article below explains the relevant search method.

Maybe it is the one you usually use, maybe not. Am no expert myself.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

Re: "I think the issue is that when News does not find the magazine/channel, instead of saying "search not found," it just shows a bunch of other stuff. "

To find a particular magazine/channel

In the News App: (Top Menu) try choosing File > Discover Channels.

Else: Seems you may be able to use "favourites" or "following" to easily access items you've chosen or browsed before (or decide to add).

More info: Explore channels, topics, and stories in News on Mac - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Apple News collects and organises stories from a wide range of publications (called channels) and topics. It’s easy to explore what’s there and find the sources and stories that interest you — from breaking news to travel videos to summer recipes.

  1. Go to the News app  on your Mac.
  2. Click an item in the sidebar.
  3. If the sidebar isn’t shown, click  in the toolbar.
  4. In addition to quick access to stories you saved and your reading history, the sidebar includes the following:"

  • Today
  • News+
  • Sport
  • Puzzles
  • Shared with you

  • Favourites, which shows the channels and topics from your Following list that you like best (you can only have a limited number of favourites). You may already have some channels and topics that have been automatically added to Favourites, but you can customise this list at any time.

  • Following, which lists the channels and topics you follow. This section also includes Apple News Spotlight, which showcases coverage of special events and content selected by Apple News editors.

  • Suggested, which lists channels and topics suggested by Siri or — if you chose not to have Siri suggest items— by your actions in Apple News. For example, whether you follow or block channels and topics, or ask for more or fewer suggestions similar to a story you’re reading. In some countries or regions, local news may be suggested based on your location.

If a channel or topic you expected isn’t shown, use the search field at the top of the sidebar to search Apple News, or choose File > Discover Channels."

(There's more details for some of the bulleted options in the linked article at the top.)
