How do I improve the quality of Apple News App Articles in my paid news feed?

I am subscribed to Apple News (including all the associated providers such as Reuters, Washington Post, etc.)

my feed is filled with repeat articles (often on the same day, just slightly re-worded, or articles that are days/weeks/months old, but with an updated byline or origination date to appear “fresh” or topical or even given the impression that the information is actually news.

I am also put off by the preponderance of articles that appear to Be News, but are in fact thinly (and grossly uninformed) attempts to sell/hawk a product (“flight attendants swear by this product” or “how to maximize your retirement benefits”)

How can I change the settings of this PAID product so that I may receive topical, current, and valid news articles?

I understand your concern/issue. I have greatly fine tuned my News feed by following the suggestions found in this AppleInsider article. It takes time, similar to taking time to block email addresses or marking them as junk to clean up your email inbox. But over time, I have seen remarkable results in my feed. For example, there are a couple "celebrities" who do not interest me at all. But giving a thumbs down 👎 to articles about them, I am finally at a point where I see almost none at all. Give it a try.

When you open a story, you'll see an icon at the top of the article that shows an image for "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." Tapping that will open a pop-up that allows you to choose "Suggest More" or "Suggest Less," just like Apple Books and similar to Apple Music.

You can also rate a story without opening it or reading it if you want, by tapping the ellipses icon, which will pop up the same drop-down menu that has the "Suggest More" or "Suggest Less" options.

Similarly, you can also inform Apple News which outlets you prefer by following them, which will lead the service to suggest similar outlets. Or you can block a news channel if you don't want to see it pop up in your feed again.
