MacBook Air: 'Out of memory' and Chrome paused

I’m getting a new message on my MacBook Air:

” your system has run out of application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you were not using.”

And I can no longer access Google Chrome, which says it is paused. What shall I do?

Thanks!

MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

You will need to Force Quit Chrome and any other apps which may have been paused.

Once all paused apps have been Force Quit, then reboot the computer. Don't try to continue using it without restarting because you may find things have become unstable from the "out of memory" issue. This is from personal experience. If the system is unable to reboot after Force Quitting the paused apps, then hold the power button down for 10 seconds to force a power off.

What version of macOS are you running? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".
