Unable to print after upgrading to iOS 26

My wife and I use iPhones 7se. Hers is a 2gen and mine is a 3rd generation. The printer we both use is an HP Envy 4520. We are both using ios26. The issue is she can print from her iPhone, but I cannot. I select the printer, but the screen drops back to no printer selected. I’ve gone through all the resets and I can only print from the HP app I added to my phone, but not from the phone. What is with the 3rd gen that would cause this?

iPhone SE, iOS 26

Turn the printer, router, and iPhone/iPad off and on again. For advanced settings or if AirPrint fails, download the HP Smart app from the App Store. Access the printer's network settings via a browser using its IP address to confirm AirPrint is enabled. Verify both devices are not just on Wi-Fi, but on the same subnet and not one on a guest network etc.

Which vendor and model printer?

If it is the same HP ENVY 4520 as this thread, that supports AirPrint and would be the usual path.

HP seems to use a downloaded app to perform the printer setup, per the hp.com/go/mobileprinting website.

HP has troubleshooting info here, including a means to “restore” to the printer setup mode: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2026505-1746064-16

If this is a different configuration and quite possibly a different question, please provide a few more details.

There is no iPhone 7se model. iPhone 7 was manufactured in two variants iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7. You have probably an SE 3rd gen. Your spouse probably has a SE 3rd generation which was available March 2020 until April 2022. Both models are compatible with iOS 26.X.X. They are both SE variants, no 7 involved (iPhone 7 discontinued in September 2019).

With that out of the way, did you reset the network settings on the device?

Thank you for your reply. I double checked and both of our phones are iPhone 7se. Hers is a 2nd gen and was purchased a few years ago new. My phone I bought used through Amazon as a 3rd gen. I have to think if they were not compatible with iOS 26 they would not have taken the upgrade. But here we are.

———-

Compare the Model Number and the Serial Number:

What Model Name do you see when you enter the Serial number here?: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/. So, where was HER iPhone purchased from. If Apple, then no worries there. If not purchased from Apple, then it may be a jailbroken phone. I don’t have an iPhone 7, or an iPhoneSE, for that matter. iPhones weren’t sold in 2020. If new, did it come unwrapped with an H-seam; if not, then it is used. And, do you see Settings or Preferences? When the iPhone 7 and iPhoneSe was released, it read “Preferences” — not “Settings” as the app. I’d be a bit speculative of an iPhone purchased off of Amazon.

This method isn’t reliable, as the Serial Number and Model Numbers can be modified in a jailbroken phone. Nonetheless, report back the Model Number you see —and DO NOT provide the Serial Number. If it does not match up with the Model Number provided, then it is either a jailbroken phone, or it it an issue with Apple’s device database.

Finding the Serial Number:

  1. Go: Preferences
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: About
  4. View: Model Name
  5. View: the Serial Number

My apologies. You are correct, there is no 7. It just has iPhone SE 3rd gen. My iOS upgraded to 26.3 last night. Still unable to print from my phone. Restarted both the phone and the network. It sees the printer and I can select it then after a few seconds it drops back to no printer selected.

Thank for clearing that up.

Resetting your Printer to Factory Settings:

If the HP Smart App does not work, then I would say save the assigned credentials of the printer, and then reset the printer to Factory Settings. How to do that would depend on the model of your printer. For a printer with a screen, you’d likely do so through use of the gear icon(expectedly at the very bottom of the screen). If assigned a dynamic IP address, then it ought to show up on the network.

"I’ve already taken the printer back to factory settings twice and reset to the WiFi network. Made sure that neither is on a guest network. I did download the hp smart app and I can print from there, but I’ve lost the ability to print from my phone. However, my wife can print from her phone the se 2nd gen."

Read the whole thread, you probably have SE2020 and SE2022.

Where on earth do you see the number 7? (screenshots are welcome)
