Will a camera cover affect my iPhone 11 camera long-term?

I have put a camera coverer from temu onto my iPhone 11, it's basically a slider, NOW, the important question is what will happen to my iPhone's camera in the long term while it's camera is covered, and apparently Face ID works normally while the front camera is covered/blocked, See the item below, Will this affect my iPhone's camera? and is it not considered recommended for the phone's health generally?

iPhone 11, iOS 18

The key issue is if Face ID still works with the cover in place. Covering the camera up will not harm it in any way. Cameras are covered by lens caps all the time. If this affords you some additional privacy that you feel necessary, I don’t see any harm in it. The worse thing that could happen is having to remove it because it interferes with a function (such as Face ID) that you feel is of critical importance.

Getting Camera to Not Work:

You might bet a bit of junk in the lens. But, if you want to avoid access to the camera, then you should toggle it off using screen time (I do so, to avoid taking screenshots of the camera app opening unintentionally --not because I'm paranoid). I can still scan use FaceTime, despite the app being turned off, because it is not restricted, nor is it covered. Where I am, people pop in with lots of covers. As for finding such a cover, going to Amazon, some might just pop up, with the correct keywords: brown leather phone case camera flip. Using those keywords on Google Images, it might pop up too.

Using ScreenTime to Turn Off the Camera App:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: ScreenTime
  3. Tap: Content & Privacy Restrictions
  4. Tap: Allowed Apps & Features
  5. Toggle Off: Camera

Noted, but who told you I'm being paranoid? All I'm literally doing is asking, why assume?

If you want a brutally honest answer, you did when you told us you bought a camera cover for your iPhone.

Your phone is not spying on you. No one is hacking the camera on your phone to spy on you. All you're doing is reducing the functionality of your phone unnecessarily.

"I have always thought that turning off the camera functionality from screen time's settings completely disables the camera making the app disappear, losing out on the functionality of the camera, scanning qr codes, and many more."

Making the iSight Camera Inaccessible:

  • iOS and iPadOS:

On an iPhone and an iPad, toggling the Camera app off in ScreenTime makes the app disappear(therefore inaccessible) --but it will still work for items like FaceTime.

  • macOS:

On the other hand, on a macOS, toggling Camera off with ScreenTime, the iSight Camera will NOT work, as it will not be seen. In Tahoe, you need to have Sonoma or Sequoia preinstalled with ScreenTime preconfigured, and then perform and upgrade to Tahoe for it to still be inaccessible in-full. For a Mac that came with Tahoe installed when purchases, you cannot, for what I've found, solar.
