AirPods Pro 2 Active Noise Cancellation Degraded and Charging Issues After iOS 26.2

I'm experiencing issues with my AirPods Pro 2 that began after updating my iPhone to iOS 26.2. Looking for troubleshooting suggestions.

Device Information:

  • AirPods Pro 2 (purchased 3 months ago)
  • Paired with iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 26.2
  • No physical damage, indoor use only

Issue Timeline:

These issues appeared within 24 hours of updating my iPhone to iOS 26.2, approximately 3 weeks ago. Prior to the update, the AirPods functioned perfectly with no issues.

Primary Issue - Active Noise Cancellation:

The Active Noise Cancellation has become noticeably less effective. I've verified multiple times in settings that ANC is enabled and the mode is set correctly. The difference is significant enough that I initially thought I had accidentally disabled the feature.

Secondary Issue - Charging Problems:

Intermittent charging failures where one earbud fails to charge while in the case. The issue alternates randomly between the left and right earbud. Case battery is functioning normally.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Completed:

  • Reset AirPods (hold button on case)
  • Forgotten device and re-paired with iPhone
  • Cleaned charging case contacts and earbud stems
  • Verified firmware is up to date
  • Tested with different charging cables and power sources
  • Checked fit of ear tips and cleaned mesh
  • Toggled ANC on/off multiple times

My Question:

Has anyone experienced degraded Active Noise Cancellation or charging issues with AirPods Pro 2 after the iOS 26.2 update? Are there additional troubleshooting steps I should attempt? Any community insights would be helpful.

Troubleshooting AirPods Connectivity:

I. Update your AirPods to the Latest Firmware:

Connect and pair these to a device that itself is already connected to the Internet. The firmware will be updated itself.

II. Update your iPhone to iOS 26.3:

iOS 26.3 has been released less than two-days ago, as of this reply. So, perform the update, seeing if charging is then fixed.

IMPORTANT:

Back Up First: Before installing the update, be certain to back up your iPhone prior to installing the update. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update. Create a new backup, after the update has competed.

HOW TO UPDATE;

Other than directly through the iPhone itself, you can do so using a computer, and though Cellular. Use my User Tips:

III. Troubleshooting AirPod Connectivity Issues:

Where to go from here:

A. Troubleshoot the Pairing:

Disable Bluetooth on all but one device — the one device you want to synchronize with these with.

B. Troubleshoot the Connection:

Using this via these Apple Support links, troubleshoot this.

C. Verify the Balance:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Accessibility
  4. Scroll Down: to Hearing
  5. Adjust: the audio volume balance

E. Provide Feedback:

It is best that you provide feedback ob this is Apple.  Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - AirPods - Apple - Apple
  2. Select: "Performance" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when you came across this issue, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

I understand that seems unlikely, but the timing is what I can’t ignore. AirPods worked flawlessly for 2.5 months, then developed these issues within 24 hours after the update. Since iOS controls the AirPods firmware updates and connection management, there could be a software interaction causing the problems.

I’ve also seen other users reporting similar issues after the update.

Thank you for the detailed troubleshooting steps. I've already completed most of these actions, and the issue is specifically with ANC effectiveness, it degraded overnight, not gradually over days or weeks, but literally from one day to the next immediately following the iOS 26.2 update. Prior to the update, ANC functioned flawlessly for 2.5 months of daily use. The change was so drastic that I initially believed ANC had been accidentally disabled.

I've already submitted feedback through the official channel as you've suggested.
