App Store: An app that won't update

I'm having an issue with the App Store. The store shows an app as having updated recently, but it has not. The version listed in the App Store does not match the (earlier) version on my Mac. There is no Update option in the store--only an Open option.

I've rebooted the computer, and I've signed out of the App Store and signed back in. Suggestions?

The app in question is Airmail 2. Their only download option is the App Store. If it matters, I'm using Tahoe 26.3 on a Mac mini M4.

App Store may have downloaded the update for you, yet the app has not actually been installed yet, waiting for you to ok it.

Look for an install package on the desktop, or in your downloads folder, or wherever downloads are set to arrive.

Else: If you haven't tried it:

You could try double-clicking the app icon you do have in the Applications folder, to see if it installs the update or opens the update. (The icon in the dock may open the older version that is your current one.)

Check with the Developer. The version number you see in the App Store is nothing more than a text string that the Developer enters when the app is submitted to Apple, and they can get it wrong. They can also enter the correct version number for the App Store, but forget to change the version number you see when viewing the About AirMail information in the menu bar of the app.

I can confirm for you that the downloaded version of AirMail does not match what the Developer has submitted for the version number you see in the App Store. You do have the latest version of AirMail that the Developer has submitted though, as you can see the version number showing on the app is not even one listed in the Version History in the App Store.

This all started when I had a small issue with the app, so I asked Airmail tech support for help. They suggested I install the latest version 26.0.2 from the app store. The app store lists 26.0.2 as the most recent version. It says my I'm already updated, but I still show that I'm using an earlier version.

The downloaded version is 26.0.16, and I suspect that is the one you have. You can see in the App Store that there is not even that version seen in the History, and the previous version would be 26.0.1. They are listed as 26.0.0,, 26.0.1, and the 26.0.2, so it appears to me the Developer has not even accounted for that version that is currently in the App Store. They either made a mistake by uploading the wrong version to the App Store or have it incorrectly labeled. Maybe by you telling them that 26.0.2 is not the version that is downloaded, they will correct it.

Re: App Store: An app that won't update

In the App Store sidebar:

Click on "Updates" at the bottom of the sidebar.

If you do not have automatic updates set, you may find the correct update version there, ready to download with a click.

You might want to check whether you have set third-party apps to update automatically or not.

In the App Store: Check the "Preferences" set in your account.

Eg: You may or may not want to choose between

"Automatically check for updates"

or

"Download newly available updates in the background"
