How to fix apps updating issue on macOS Monterey?

Hi all,

after updating to macOS Monterey (now it's 12.6.6) on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) any app that has updates is stuck in updating. Reboot doesn't help.

Having seen similar when updating iMove back in Monterey


Finder is needing a little help to register all the changes taking place with the update


Good work on doing a restart 👍


Maybe doing a Safe Boot may or may not fix things.


1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.


2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance 


3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?


4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

  1. Make sure you have a stable internet connection. App updates require a reliable internet connection to download and install properly. If your connection is slow or unstable, try restarting your modem/router or connecting to a different network. A simple restart can often resolve minor software glitches. Restart your Mac and try updating the apps again. Sometimes, the App Store cache can cause issues with updates. To clear the cache, open the App Store and go to the "Store" menu. From there, select "Clear Cache" and confirm the action. Afterward, try updating your apps again. Sign out of your Apple ID in the App Store by going to the "Store" menu and selecting "Sign Out." Then, sign back in using your Apple ID credentials. This can refresh your App Store connection and potentially resolve update issues.

When updates from the App Store happen to fail, it sometimes helps if you just drag the application - in this case, iMovie - to the trash (but don't empty it just yet). This makes it like you are just downloading the application, instead of updating, and that may go through. When installation finishes, you can then empty the trash (this is to ensure that if the download fails you still have the previous version available).


Maybe that will work with Zoom, too.
