Autoccorect is off but my phone keeps autocorrecting previous words. I use slide to type.

  • my text replacement has no entries (yet I get word replacements for every 20% of my words)
  • I switched off autocorrect
  • as I type a sentence, the words before my current word are autocorrected
  • my messages are incoherent because it's very easy not to notice

This is very frustrating. A nokia from 20 years ago could do a better job. my old android did a 100% better job. Typing is a literal pain and it's one of the basic functions of the phone.

My next phone will be an android there's no solution to this problem.

Getting AutoCorrect to Stop Making a Correction:

Give is a Few Declines (The Tapping of "X"):

Turn Off Predictive Text:

With Predictive Text is turned off, it will still suggestion corrections. Tap the "X" when you get this prompt. After a few tries, it will stop prompting you for this.

  1. Go Here: Use Predictive Text on iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Turn predictive text off or on
  3. As it Reads: "When you turn off Predictive Text, iPhone may still try to suggest corrections for misspelled words. To accept a correction, enter a space or punctuation, or tap Return. To reject a correction, tap the “x.” If you reject the same suggestion a few times, iPhone stops suggesting it."

There's no option to tap an anything after the phone autocorrects my previous word. This is what I'm trying to disable.

It doesn't show the x, when it changes my word before my current word.

This only ever shows for actual autocorrection suggestions on current words but never on the previous words.

I don't mind the latter, but changing my previous words is really frustrating. I've already moved on and half the time don't realise. It's almost always wrong, because I know how to type, so by the time it changes my words it's from the words I specifically edited or typed.

Half the time my messages are incoherent as a result. It's not just me. Everyone complains about it but it's been broken for a long time now.

I really don't get how phones regressed so much behind.

I'd love to be able to disable this broken function. Once I disabled autocorrection and enabled autocapitalisation, now the autocapitalisation doesn't work so i spell i with a lowercase letter.

I don't want to move back to Android just to be able to spell and type my messages without sounding like an idiot who can't put a coherent sentence together.

I've seen on this forum how many people have had these issues for years so instead of trying to tell me how to spell, I'd love for this to be actually fixed please. A turned off functionality should turn it off - not ignore user preferences. It's against basic accessibility.

(to clarify, i know that you're not working for Apple so i don't expect you to fix it for me!)

i can't even be bothered to correct spelling issues anymore.
