MacBook Pro 2019 – SSD Overheating & Full Speed Fan Issue

Hello everyone,

I am using a MacBook Pro 15-inch 2019 (Intel, T2 chip model).

Recently, I am facing a serious issue related to SSD temperature and fan behavior.

🔴 Main Problem:

  1. SSD temperature constantly shows 86°C

  2. Even when the laptop is idle, the temperature does not change.

  3. When I physically touch the bottom case, it does NOT feel hot.

  4. On startup, the cooling fan immediately runs at full speed (~4500 RPM or more).

  5. Fan continues running loudly even when no heavy applications are open.

It appears that the system believes the SSD is overheating, but there is no actual heat.

🛠 What I Have Already Tried:

  • ✅ SMC Reset (Correct T2 method – Right Shift + Left Option + Left Control + Power)

  • ✅ NVRAM Reset

  • ✅ macOS Reinstallation

  • ✅ DFU Restore (Firmware reinstalled)

  • ✅ Checked using Macs Fan Control

Even after all these steps:

  • SSD temperature still shows fixed at 86°C

  • Fan still runs at high speed

  • No real overheating observed physically

🔎 My Observation:

It looks like either:

  • SSD temperature sensor malfunction

  • Sensor communication issue

  • T2 chip firmware-related problem

  • Or motherboard sensor line fault

❓ My Request:

If anyone has faced a similar issue with the 2019 MacBook Pro model,

please let me know:

  • Is this a known SSD sensor failure?

  • Can this be fixed without replacing the entire logic board?

  • Is there any software-level calibration fix available?

Any technical guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for you report of all you have tried.

I see NO direct correlation between that SSD temperature and your fans running high. Your assumption does not appear to be backed by observable fasts.

I recommend you run the diagnostic.

NB>> 'no fault found' says that in the very brief allowed time, using the tests available, No defects were detected.

It is FAR form "all is well"

macOS 15.7

Is this the correct macOS you are currently running(?) You do not specify.

verify your software is up to date—

The current stable release of Sequoia including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 15.7.3 — I would start there.
