Keynote: Make TV presentation movie with transitions

Trying to setup a slide presentation to save as a movie file for TV monitor and cannot figure out Keynote.

I have added slides with logos on them and want to have a dissolve from slide 1 to slide 2 and so forth for the remaining slides. I don't know if I only need transitions or if I also need builds. I have never really used the program and wasn't getting anywhere with the user guide. Just trying to create a rotating presentation of said logos to play on large TV monitor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

It helps to refer to the Keynote User Guide for Mac - Apple Support Go to the section called "Add transitions between slides in Keynote on Mac"

You would add transitions between slides, which you can apply to multiple slides not just one at a time.

  • Select the slide
  • Click Animate (upper right of Keynote window)
  • Select an effect (e.g. Dissolve)
  • Change the Duration if you want to
  • In the sidebar the slide thumbnail will get a lower right blue corner to show that it has a transition.

To export a movie you would go to File > Export > Movie, then set options as you desire them.

Transitions apply between slides

Builds apply to elements within a slide. Builds play after transitions.

The easy way (at least for me :) ) to think about this is that:

Transitions apply to the whole slide (e.g the transition from Slide 1 -> Slide 2)

Builds apply to how the content on the slide is built (e.g. fading in individual elements in a bullet list, slide a specific graphic object around on the slide, etc.)

Additionally, transitions are applied to the outgoing slide - that is, if you want to wipe from Slide 1 to Slide 2, you apply the transition to Slide 1 (applied as this slide goes out), not to Slide 2.

As for the movie, if you just want a self-playing movie with consistent timing between each slide, then File -> Export To... -> Movie will do that.

However, if you want more control over timing, or want an audio/VoiceOver track, then use Play -> Record Slideshow to walk through your presentation, timing, etc., then Export To... -> Movie will have the option to save that recording rather than a fixed interval.
