I have been trying to get my sony Dcr-TRV18 to connect to my macbook pro M3. i have the following connectors for my system.
: 4pin firewire to 9pin
:9pin firewire to thunderbolt 2
:thunderbolt 2 thunderbolt 3
in system settings under thunderbolt3 it recognizes a firewire adapter connection.

Tahoe is the problem. It doesn’t support FireWire in any way, shape, or form.
The USB ports on most MiniDV camcorders are only useful for transferring still photos and low-resolution, short videos. You’ll probably need to get a USB capture device (and software) that can digitize the signals from your camcorder’s analog audio and video outputs.
Apple removed Firewire support in Tahoe. That camera has a USB port and that may be alternative connectivity option with a USB to USB-C cable, or conversion dongle. Then you need video capture software on the Mac that is compatible with that camcorder's recording formats, as I do not believe this is as simple as dragging the video from the camera.
