iPod touch on Activation lock after iOs update

In September 2025, I bought a 7th generation iPod Touch online. The seller advertised it as brand new. I set up with my Apple account, and I loaded music onto it. I have been using it just fine. I updated the iOS in January 2026 and now it is saying that the iPod Touch is locked to the owner. It also says that the Apple account [my email address] cannot be used to unlock this iPod touch. How is this possible? There was no username set up on the iPod touch until I set it up. How do I fix this without losing my data?

Contact the seller you bought it from.

Can't remove the activation lock without the original apple id that was used to set it up.
