WindowServer CPU Usage Skyrockets in macOS 15.7.4

Just got my MacBook Pro (14-inch, Nov 2024, Apple M4) upgraded from macOS 15.7.3 to 15.7.4 a few minutes ago. The WindowServer CPU usage skyrockets. Even with none apps or windows opened, the CPU usage is at least 50–60%. How can I fix this issue? Or am I hitting a bug bundled with the latest macOS Sequoia?

Thank you.

Is there a reason not to upgrade to Tahoe?

Or, remove all 3rd party virus apps (Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, Intego, MacAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, ESET NOD32, Trusteer, PC Matic etc) and 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" apps (CleanMyMac, Cleaner One, MacKeeper etc). They produce obscure errors like this and are not needed (MalwareBytes and AppCleaner are exceptions but should be used manually and cautiously).

If that does not help, then post an EtreCheck report which would eliminate much other guesswork:

That is normal. The macOS has a few background processes to run after an update or upgrade.

Hi Matti,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have not upgraded to Tahoe due to compatibility issues with some niche scientific software.

I do not have any third-party antivirus apps or third-party “cleaning,” “optimizing,” or “speed-up” apps installed on my Mac, but I appreciate your suggestion.

Thank you again, and have a great weekend.
