How to turn off apple wallet automatically paying when I'm near a card reader?

Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > tap card > scroll down > turn off Express Transit, you may need to do this for all cards.

It's been a problem for many years and is a pain in the neck.

This is a couple of years old so I don't know if it will still work.

This seems like a developer issue. Are you using the transit company’s app? That may resolve the issue. I’ve been trying to duplicate the issue, and can’t. If I have the ticket in various transit company’s apps the QR card from the app is all that shows. If I have express transit on, I can literally just get near the reader and it charges the default card.

This leads me to thinking the app is not implementing the correct processes to prevent such duplicate transactions.

Sorry Jeff but both cards in my wallet have express transit turned off but the problem of Apple Pay wallet coming uo and obscuring a bar code on a pdf, photo or bus/train/airport app still occurred repeatedly causing us to miss a train at an airport in Italy. Had the same problem in France. Beware other users this fix may not work for you. I guess having express transit off means you won’t get an automatic payment when you already have a ticket or pass but you will still find it almost impossible to sxan it.
