Preview crash when editing PDFs on iPad

When opening PDF files in Preview and editing them on my iPad, the app suddenly crashes. Is there a solution to this annoying issue?

Many files are created in other apps, edited there, and finally exported in .pdf format so that they will always remain safe, and remain as created by their creator. Some .pdf files are actually set up to prevent them being changed at all, or they may be password protected so only those who are authorised can make any changes.

Mostly, .pdf files can be annotated, or marked-up with suitable tools, on iPad. (A third-party purchased Adobe Acrobat app may be able to do more, haven't tried it myself. The free Acrobat reader is not a .pdf editor.)

_______

Preview is not a .pdf editor as such:

Seems we can open, read, duplicate, copy, and annotate .pdf files in Preview ok.

Eg: That's quite handy for Bank statements etc.

In the Books app, we can open .pdf's (eg: files we receive in Messages or Mail etc.), and read, mark-up, print and share .pdf files. Eg: Especially handy for reading long files, and using mark-up.

(Again, the Books app is not a .pdf editor).

You may want to ensure a .pdf file is not protected from any changes.

You can check whether annotating in Preview,

or

marking-up in the Books app will serve your purpose.

You can: Work with PDFs in Notes on iPad

Else: Another way to edit the content of a .pdf file:

You may be able to copy and paste text from a .pdf into a text-editor (eg: Pages app) and edit it there. Export as .pdf if necessary.
