Apple TV (3rd generation) not connecting to iCloud

Apple TV third generation and iCloud.

I bought a second hand Apple TV third Gen, in order to send music to my high end music system. I have restored it completely and all works fine, including connecting to iTunes with my Apple ID, but I can't connect to iCloud.

I have another Apple TV but 2nd gen, and have no problem with that one.

can anyone help please solve this?

Thank you

The Apple TV (3rd generation) from 2012/2013 (A1427/A1469) unfortunately doesn’t support iCloud services anymore. I believe you can still sign in for the Store services (library/buy/rent/subscribe), but iCloud services have changed beyond what that model supports. You may continue using it without signing in for iCloud services. You will need a newer model (4th generation HD, or 4K) that supports newer software for support of iCloud services.

Neither the 2nd nor 3rd gen support iCloud, the minimum requirement for the current infrastructure is TVOS 11, while it is recommended to be up to date (version 26). Beyond airplay (of which they only support the original, not Airplay 2) there isn't much else as content providers have dropped support for the server-based channels that ran on them. As they are also old it is more common for issues to appear and there would be no support. I haven't recommended the older models for some time. Yes, optical was removed but HDMI was widely adopted for passthrough of modern audio formats and device control.

Hi

thank you again for your answer. Yes I bought one, first thing I did after buying the apple TV 4K indeed. but apparently and I don't know why it needs the TV to be on also. otherwise it does not extract the audio. and on top of that when it works and I play music with some silences, I can hear a constant humming quite annoying. that's why I then bought this apple TV 3rd Gen for only 20€.
