Converting RGB to CMYK, display options

I'm converting RGB to CMYK using the ColorSync application. I've checked & doubled checked I'm doing it correctly; opening the image in ColorSync - match to profile - generic CMYK - Intent; relative colorimetric - apply & then save as, which gives me a CMYK version of the image. However I can't see any difference when viewing the image on the screen. Is there a way to change display settings (if that is correct) to be able to view the difference. I'm getting something ready for print.

Thanks.

Am no expert in the area, and am sorry I don't know of a way to compare RGB / CMYK.
