Is there a way to factory reset this keyboard?
The Magic Keyboard A1644 is powered by its internal battery, charging and pairing with a compatible device (such as your Mac computer) using the Keyboard's Lightning port. Other than the on-off switch, the keyboard does not have any additional physical controls with which to reset the iPad.
You can find a downloadable copy of the Magic Keyboard's User Guide here:

If unable to self-resolve the problem, you would be well advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.
Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

Unhelpful. Neither of these apply to my keyboard, both suggest that I should, "hold the power button"... there is no power button on this model of keyboard, just an on/off switch. And the only LED light is on the 'caps lock' button.
The caps lock LED supplies perhaps another helpful clue:
When plugged into my laptop via lightning cable the caps lock LED will go on and off, but not when it is unplugged. (Has the internal battery on this thing failed?)
Similarly, when plugged in and the on/off switch position is changed the "Keyboard Off" notification will pop up on my MacBook screen, but never the "Keyboard On" notification. Even plugged in to my MacBook this thing never shows up or shows its charging status, it does function when plugged in, but as it's supposed to be a wireless keyboard this is fairly unhelpful.
Please advise further.

Thanks,
This all makes sense... apart from the reference to the iPad...
In following the User Guide and Apple support docs, both say that keyboard will automatically pair with the Macbook when it is plugged in. This is not happening.
So what would the suggestion be if (when the keyboard is connected to the MacBook) it doesn't show up as a Bluetooth device?
