Reset Apple ID password without 2FA phone number or device access

Need help resetting password when I no longer have access to two factor authenticator

I really need help. I forgot my password for my apple account. I cannot use my device because the software glitched and says my account is locked by my email. It's an ipad 7th generation. I went to the Apple forgot password website. When I input the information, it asks for a phone number. Unfortunately, the phone number on my account belongs to an old phone number that I no longer have access to. It gives me no other option besides the phone number to try to reset my account. What can I do to access my account and update my phone number. I have access to my email on the account. Anything would be greatly appreciated as I am getting desperate to access my account. Everything on Apple support website seems stuck on accessing settings, or using the Apple Support app which is not working for this issue without a device. Thank you.

If you find you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery (get Apple’s own instructions in this article: https://support.apple.com/118574 ) to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity. One tip to using account recovery is to look for options in small blue letters beneath the normal log-in items if you cannot complete the requested information.

Thank you Limnos for your reply. Unfortunately, the articles keep telling me to either use the device or my phone number with the two factor authorization. Since I do not have access to a device or the number anymore, I am still stuck with my question of accessing my account. I am a basic Apple user and just need to reset my password. Thanks.
